29 september 2009Shopping around for Bulgaria?s good news
Depending upon what you read, you would be forgiven for feeling confused about the market situation and the value of real estate in Bulgaria at the moment. However, some good news shows that the country is leading the way when it comes to shopping centre construction.
Figures for the first six months of 2009 show that Bulgaria is actually leading Europe when it comes to new constructions of this type. The economic downturn worldwide has meant the country has had to cut its original programme for malls by 20%. Such performance seems remarkable especially in light of the fact that most Bulgarians only have a fraction of the buying power most main European counterparts have.
Although construction productivity as a whole is down compared to a year ago, such positive and forward thinking projects are hoped to have a direct impact upon the market place. Investment property in Bulgaria seems thin on the ground currently, but the value of mall neighbouring properties is expected to rise, and may offer a much needed alternative for the shrewd investor.
